The Physics of Craft: Woodworking
A lifelong passion for hands-on creation, beginning at age five, led me to explore the science, precision, and creativity behind woodworking. Over the years, I’ve designed and built numerous wooden pieces—from racing cars and airplanes to flowers and even a baby-in-the-manger scene crafted entirely from scratch. This passion grew into leadership when I served as an Assistant Teacher at Duchesne Academy’s Summer Woodworking Camp, guiding 15 children through the process of designing, cutting, assembling, and painting their own wooden creations. I helped campers understand not just the steps, but the beauty of bringing ideas into form—combining patience, spatial reasoning, and a maker’s mindset.
Woodworking taught me how physics, design, and art intersect—and how teaching others multiplies that joy.
