Camp Blessing: Volunteering for Special Needs Children

Serve as Cabin Head during Camp for Special Need Children to provide love, acceptance, & Fun

During the summers of 2023 and 2024, I lived and worked as a cabin hand at Camp Blessing, a residential, barrier-free summer camp for children and young adults with special needs (physical/developmental/intellectual disabilities).

Each week, I was paired one-on-one with a camper, sharing a cabin, helping them with daily routines, and ensuring they had a safe, joyful experience. My responsibilities included helping with dressing, showering, and mealtimes, and offering care with dignity and respect. Together, we explored art, games, sports, and moments of quiet connection, many of which were new experiences for them. It was emotionally and physically demanding, but also profoundly meaningful. Living alongside my camper at Camp Blessing taught me what it truly means to serve: to show up with patience, to listen deeply, and to offer presence even in silence.
